Our Christian life is a life of enjoyment, a life of feasting. The beginning of our Christian life is a wedding feast (Matt. 22:2). The continuation of our Christian life is the Lord’s table (1 Cor. 10:21, 11:25-26). The consummation of the Christian life is the marriage dinner of the Lamb (Rev. 19:9).
God has saved us out of Egypt so that we can hold a feast unto Him in the wilderness (Exo. 5:1). Our life on earth can be likened to the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness. Like in a wilderness, human life on earth may be fraught with challenges, troubles and sufferings, but God takes care of His people by preparing a table in the wilderness not just for us to eat, but to feast, to eat richly (Psa. 78:19). As we eat, we are strengthened to move on with Him with His people, to carry out His economy here on earth.
Psalms 23:5 also tells us that Jehovah has set a table before us in the presence of our enemies. Even as we fight our spiritual battles day by day, we should not despise the matter of eating the Lord, because our eating is also our fighting.
Praise the Lord! All things are ready, come to the feast (Luke 14:17). As we come to this love feast, let each one of us bring our portion, our dish, of our topmost enjoyment and experience of Christ’s riches to set before the table for others to enjoy. By our mutual encouragement and supply in the Body, may we be able to apprehend with all the saints the vast dimensions of Christ, so that we may be filled unto all the fulness of God (Eph. 3:18-19). Amen.
