2 Samuel 24: “…So Jehovah sent a pestilence in Israel…and seventy thousand people died…And when the angel stretched forth his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah…said to the angel who destroyed the people, It is enough…And the angel of Jehovah was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite…And there David built an altar to Jehovah, and he offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. And Jehovah responded to the entreaty for the land, and the plague was stayed in Israel.”
Hundreds of Israelis in Jerusalem followed the pattern of David. As the deadly coronavirus continues to spread, nearly a thousand people held a mass prayer for the health and well-being of the Chinese people during a gathering on Sunday at the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem, one of the holiest places for Jews.
In addition to Hebrew prayers, a prayer was said in the Mandarin language and a ram’s horn, known as a shofar, was blown, a symbolic act in Judaism that is believed to invoke God’s mercy.
