Eating God’s Word through Pray-Reading

This past Sunday our fellowship continued on from last week, the Word of God. But the emphasis this week was that we need to eat it! What really struck me this week was the prophet Jeremiah’s experience in Jeremiah 15:16 ”Your words were found and I ate them, and Your word became to me the gladness and joy of my heart.” I was just so impressed that this was his reaction to the Bible, the Word of God. I’m jealous of his experience, but I’m sure that his first encounter with the Word wasn’t extraordinary. As little children, we often get distracted. We forget to eat and we become cranky and moody, but if we would just eat regularly, then everything would be great! 1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation.” We need to drink our milk to grow! We were all given a homework assignment, read one chapter of the Bible a day, but pray over what you’re reading. Lastly, pray over two verses every morning. Sometimes we have to start with a homework assignment to jumpstart a habit, then we will develop a taste for it. I appreciate when the brother who shared, brought out the matter of praying over what we are reading. Ephesians 6:17-18 mention receiving the word by means of all prayer and petition. This is how we should take in the Word to chew over it and get all the nutrients out of it. So good. I can’t wait for next week’s fellowship. I hope by then I start to develop this taste for the Word for it to be the gladness and joy of my heart!
