A Fantastic, Rich, Surprising, and Hopeful Journey of Shepherding, Visiting, and Conferences in Pakistan

Last August (2023), I participated in the Sri Lanka National Conference and Visit itinerary. Witnessing the beauty of the Sri Lankan saints‘ pursuit of truth, hospitality, and the beauty of nurturing and training, I saw the most beautiful scenery in Sri Lanka.

This May, I participated in the Pakistan National Conference and Shepherding and Visiting itinerary, and I also saw inspiring and encouraging beautiful scenes: the beauty of diligent service, the beauty of self–sacrificing hospitality, the beauty of workplace morning revival, the beauty of hope, the beauty of the coordination of the body of Christ, and the beauty of cooperative shepherding.

The Beauty of Diligent Service:

Brother Zheng Yijia and Brother Ji Chengwang, who originally served full–time in Kaohsiung, came to Pakistan in July 2022 due to the Lord‘s calling and the church‘s call. In nearly two years, they and Sister Chen Ying (Brother Yijia‘s newlywed wife) have diligently learned the local Urdu language, knocked on doors to contact people, and distributed Living Stream Ministry books and magazines to find seekers who thirst for the truth. During this conference, the two brothers, in addition to busy with the conference‘s routine service, also cooperated with the Word and translation service. Not only did the brothers serve faithfully and diligently, but Sister Chen Ying also assisted from the side. During the conference, she not only translated for us but also often served as the pianist. The most touching scene was during one gathering when Chen Ying, while holding her sleeping baby, was playing the piano for the meeting. This scene inspired all of us who attended.

The Beauty of Self–Sacrificing Hospitality:

In the Islamabad church, a sister who is in charge had cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. She was weak and needed care, but she didn‘t feel sorry for herself, wasn‘t worried about getting infected by bacteria, and bravely participated in the conference. During the conference, she also hosted four saints who came from afar to participate in the conference. Actually, their home only has two rooms, and they have four children under the age of 12, but they gave up one room to accommodate the guests, with their family of six squeezed into one room. This kind of self–sacrificing love for the Lord and for the brothers and sisters is truly an example for us.

The Beauty of Workplace Morning Revival:

There is an NGO (Non–governmental Organization) in Islamabad that focuses on children‘s education. Most of the employees are Christians, including five of our brothers and sisters. Originally, two sisters had a daily morning revival in the office. Later, a senior brother suggested that everyone should join the morning revival. Therefore, all the employees in the office gather together at 9 am every day to enjoy the morning revival, invoking the Lord‘s name, reading His word, exercising their spirits, and sharing, allowing other Christians to know God‘s heart and His eternal economy. Currently, some brothers and sisters who have been gathering in Christian groups have returned to the Lord‘s recovery. Glory to God!

The Beauty of Hope:

During the conference, when the brothers who released the Word asked the saints under 35 to stand up and read the Scripture, three–quarters of the saints stood up. There were also teenagers sharing after the messages, including a child in the third grade of elementary school. Their sharing had the Spirit and the Word, showing that they received proper shepherding. It also shows that the Lord‘s testimony in Pakistan is full of young people and full of hope. Furthermore, last year‘s national conference had 211 saints attending. Thanks to the Lord, this time the highest number of participants in a single church was 306 saints and 60 children, from five cities (Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Pindi, and Faisalabad). There were also many new believers and seekers of truth. So the Lord‘s testimony in Pakistan is full of hope.

The Beauty of the Coordination of the Body of Christ:

In March of this year (2024), five workers building a dam in Pakistan were killed in a suicide attack. Therefore, the Chinese government requested that Pakistan protect the safety of all Chinese people in the country. All Chinese people staying in hotels must report to the police department, and they must be protected by police or police cars every time they go out. Although we repeatedly explained that we were Taiwanese, because our passports had the word “CHINA“ on them, we were under protection. As a result, our visits were greatly restricted. However, we couldn‘t visit them, but several brothers in charge from the Lahore church (Lahore) came to see us and mediated with the hotel manager and the police department to communicate. Therefore, we were able to cancel the accommodation regulations and leave Lahore a day early to go to the capital Islamabad. On the day we left, we were like ambassadors (we are also ambassadors of Christ), with police armed with guns in our car, and four police cars rotating in front of our car, sounding sirens and opening the way for us. The Lord‘s leading is so wonderful. Although we couldn‘t go out to visit and shepherd in Lahore, our first stop, the Lord allowed us to have unity of heart in the hotel, to pray, to hear Brother Sarfraz‘s testimony, and the establishment of the Lord‘s recovery in Lahore. We also received guidance from Brother Yimin and his wife on body health exercise. It nurtured our spirits, souls, and bodies and allowed us to enjoy the rich flavor of the body of Christ more practically. Wow! The first leg of our journey was full of challenges and surprises! It made me think of hymn number 429: “Thank you! You have come to me in this life.“ Lord, thank You! For these two days of wonderful arrangements! Thank You Lord! Praise the Lord!

The Beauty of Cooperative Shepherding:

This time, two fellow workers from the Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Penghu district, two brothers in charge from the Kaohsiung City church and their two family members, and a couple from the Auckland church in New Zealand, a total of eight people, went to cooperate in visiting and shepherding the churches. In less than three days, they visited over ten homes. Through the visits and fellowship of the brothers and sisters, the local saints were edified in their spirit and cared for in their humanity. Five brothers also cooperated in speaking during the conference, both in the release of the earlier messages and in the strengthening of the summary afterwards. It showed that the brothers had been earnestly constituted by the truth in the church, perfected in their function, and coordinated with each other, making up for each other‘s deficiencies, revealing the beauty of oneness.

Praise the Lord, this national conference in Pakistan has brought the churches into the reality of the body of Christ through coordination. We hope that more saints will attend the national conference in the second half of November this year!

Finally, the brothers in Pakistan hope that the saints in Kaohsiung will pray for the following matters:

1. Please pray for the participation of 40 brothers in charge in the June national brothers training.

2. Please pray that one–third of the saints in the local churches will go out to visit every week.

3. Please pray for the smooth distribution of Living Stream Ministry books and magazines in July.

They also hope that more middle–aged and older saints will go to shepherd and perfect them because the Lord has a vast field in Pakistan. May we all spend the rest of our lives surrendering ourselves to the hands of the Lord who died for us, wholeheartedly obeying His will, and saying to the Lord: “Lord, where You want me to go, I will go, whether on level ground or mountains; what You want me to speak, I will speak; whatever You want me to be, I will be“ (Hymn 651).
