The L.A. Years: A Church History Project and Website

We would like to share some news with you about a recently launched website: www.layears.org. The LA Years is an oral history project that documents the early years of church life in the West, particularly in Los Angeles, from 1958-1974.

This website contains written stories, photographs and first-hand accounts with detailed time periods. It also includes a fellowship about the importance of studying history. This is a live website with new material being added every month.

Many of us have heard the story of Elden Hall—the church meeting place in Los Angeles in the 1960’s and 70’s—but few of us know the details of that story. These years were very important for the movement of God. Among other things, they mark the spread from east to west and from the work of the Chinese-speaking saints to the English-speaking ones. These were the years when Brother Witness Lee moved to the United States and began his ministry and work here. These were years of uplifting, awakening, and dissemination, during which many truths and practices we love were restored.

These years are worthy of our study. May God bless this website. May it cultivate in us an appreciation of our history and heritage. And may it inspire us to move forward in God’s present movement today.

“Remember the days of long ago; / Consider the years of generation upon generation; / Ask your father, and he will inform you; / Your elders, and they will tell you.”(Deuteronomy 32:7)
