The Gospel of the Promise

This is the gospel of God’s economy, the gospel of sonship for the building up of the

church as the Body of Christ by the building of God into man and man into God.

  1. The promise that the seed of David would become the Son of God, that is,

that a human seed would become a divine Son.

Acts 13:32-33 And we announce to you the gospel of the promise made to the fathers, 33 That God has fully fulfilled this promise to us their children in raising up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, “You are My Son; this day have I begotten You.”

Acts 26:6 And now I stand here being judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers,

2 Sam. 7:12-14a When your days are fulfilled and you sleep with your fathers, I will raise up your seed after

you, which will come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 It is he who will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his Father, and he will be My son….

Matt. 22:41-45 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them, 42 Saying, What do you think concerning the Christ? Whose son is He? They said to Him, David’s 43 He said to them, How then does David in spirit call Him Lord, saying, 44 “The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand until I put Your

enemies underneath Your feet”? 45 If then David calls Him Lord, how is He his son?

  1. With this promise we see two processes, two consummations, and one

marriage.

  1. God’s process and consummation

Rom. 1:3-4 Concerning His Son, who came out of the seed of David according to the flesh, 4 Who was designated the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness out of the resurrection of the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord;

John 7:38-39 He who believes into Me, as the Scripture said, out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water. 39 But this He said concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed into Him were about to

receive; for the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

  1. The believers’ process and consummation

Rev. 19:7 Let us rejoice and exult, and let us give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.

III. The Lord spoke this gospel in John 12:24

John 12:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

  1. We must love and contact the Lord now; this will carry us along in the

process.

S.S. 1:2-4 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine. 3 Your anointing oils

have a pleasant fragrance; Your name is like ointment poured forth; Therefore the virgins love you. 4 Draw me; we will run after you – The king has brought me into his chambers…

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been manifested what we will be. We know that if He is manifested, we will be like Him because we will see Him even as He is.
