Exodus 34:22 “And you shall keep the Feast of Weeks, that is, of the firstfruits of the wheat harvest.”

From the sunset of 28th to the nightfall of 30th of May, 2020, Israel celebrates Shavuot, known as the Feast of Weeks, the Feast of Harvest, or Pentecost. Shavuot has a double significance, agricultural and spiritual. Agriculturally it marks the important wheat harvest in the Land of Israel, and spiritually it commemorates the day when God gave the Torah to the nation of Israel assembled at Mount Sinai.

Shavuot is one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals of the Bible. Modern observances in this holiday include reading the Book of Ruth, decorating homes with greenery, engaging in all-night Torah study, and eating dairy products such as milk and cheese as a way to commemorate Israelis entering into the “land flowing with milk and honey.”
