申命記8:8 『那地有小麥、大麥、葡萄樹、無花果樹、石榴樹;那地有出油的橄欖樹,有蜜。』
民數記15:21 『你們世世代代要用初熟的麥子磨麵,作為舉祭獻給耶和華。』

小麥在以色列七種神聖作物中列為第一項。在聖經裡,小麥豫表成為肉體的基督,被釘死並埋葬而得以繁增。小麥最早起源於中東Levant地區,後來廣傳至歐洲與中亞地區,是世界三大穀物(稻米、小麥和玉米)之一,產量幾乎全作為食用,僅有六分之一作為飼料使用。

小麥種類很多,通常富含澱粉、蛋白質、脂肪、礦物質、鈣、鐵等。因品種和環境條件不同,營養成份差別大。耶和華所應許給祂選民的,是「上好的麥子」(詩篇147:14)。

Deuteronomy 8:8 “A land of wheat and barley and vines and fig trees and pomegranates; a land of olive trees with oil and of honey.”
Psalm 147:14 “He makes peace in your borders; He satisfies you with the finest wheat.”

Wheat is listed first in the Seven Sacred Species in the land of Israel. The archaeological record suggests that wheat was first cultivated in the regions of the Fertile Crescent around 9600 BCE. Wheat is grown on more land area than any other food crop. World trade in wheat is greater than for all other crops combined.

Consumed worldwide by billions of people, wheat is a significant food for human nutrition. When eaten as the whole grain, wheat is a healthy food source of multiple nutrients and dietary fiber. There are many species of wheat. God promised His chosen people with “the finest wheat”.
