“And a certain man who had been lame from his mother’s womb was being carried there, whom they had laid day by day at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful to ask alms from those entering into the temple… But Peter said, Silver and gold I do not possess, but what I have, this I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene rise up and walk.” (Acts 3:2,6)

According to the New Testament, the Beautiful Gate was one of the gates to the Temple in Jerusalem prior to its destruction by the Romans in AD 70. There is only one record about the Beautiful Gate in the Bible, where the apostle Peter healed a lame man in Acts 3. Peter has no gold and silver, but is rich in Christ. Romanism is full of gold, but lacks Christ.

The exact location of the Beautiful Gate is uncertain. Many scholars believe that “the Golden Gate”, the oldest and most beautiful city gate in Jerusalem nowadays, may have derived its name from “the Beautiful Gate”. The Greek word “beauty” is oraia, and was translated into Latin with its sound as aurea, meaning “gold”. But this does not mean the Golden Gate and the Beautiful Gate are at the same location. The pictures below show the Golden Gate of today.
