The Light Flooding through God’s Word
“Because of the merciful compassions of our God, in which the rising sun will visit us from on high, to shine upon those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace”— Luke 1:78-79.
When I first touched the Lord’s word, its light flooded my whole being, I was moved to receive Him as my life. Then I continued to pursue the Lord as much as I could, always longing for that “first experience,” searching for something more.
I’m a 25-year-old qualified and working Microbiologist, dreaming of having a healthy, happy family someday, living a normal Christian life and enjoying my days as the years go by. Three years ago, I was a drug addict, confused, dissatisfied so that every aspect of my life was in darkness.
However, through the Lord’s mercy and grace, I received the Lord Jesus into my life one late Tuesday evening. I had just hit another wall and decided to escape by turning to chemicals again. As I was sitting there “tripping” in the darkness my eyes caught a Bible verse written on a piece of paper on a bookshelf in my friend’s room caught my eyes. I read it and was moved to accept the Lord into my life. At that moment, the light seemed to flood my being. I continued to pursue the Lord as much as I could, always longing for that “first experience,” searching for something more. A few months later, I was still seeking but begun to slow down in my pursuit. Then a few childhood friends gave me a book entitled Sit, Walk, Stand by Watchman Nee and encouraged me to read it. After reading it, I saw that my experience of the Lord at my initial salvation was only the first step in my journey with the Lord.
A few weeks later I was encouraged by the same group of friends to go with them visit some people from the local church in Pretoria. After just a few minutes of talking to one of the members there, I asked if I could join them sometimes for a Bible study as it was clear from my conversation that these people were lovers of the Lord and lovers of His word. He told me that their Bible study started that evening at 19:00. So, I asked if I could join in, and he agreed.
From our opening prayer, I felt as if I had been transported to another level of experience and enjoyment of the Lord Jesus. Needless to say, I enjoyed the Bible study immensely that I have been consistently meeting with the local church in Pretoria ever since, daily receiving more revelation and greater enjoyment. The light is still dawning day by day.
