Saints’ Testimonies concerning Their Pursuing of the Newly Published Ministry Books in the Church in Riverside, CA
Two months ago we read a newly published ministry book entitled The Ministry of the Word and the Spread of the Church, whose fifth chapter—Laboring in the Word and Ministering in Shepherding shows us that we need to use four lines: 1. Educating truths on various levels and perfecting people systematically; 2. Entering into the messages on cultivating life for half an hour after the Lord’s table meeting; 3. Entering into the messages on the service after prayer meeting. 4. Using the Life-studies in the small group meeting that we may be constituted with the truth and speak the truth the minute we open our mouth. This is the education carried out in being perfected in the truth. Its sixth chapter—Coordinating in the Body to Bear the Responsibility to Ministering the Word tells us that as long as the supply of the word is strong in the church, then it will be multiplied. Therefore there is the need for every one of us to bear the responsibility of ministering the word and to fulfill the responsibility of shepherding. In its seventh chapter—The Urgent Need to Strengthen the Ministry of the Word shows us that in the church the gospel preaching, the nourishing of the people, the edifying of the people, the releasing of the truth, the ministering of life, and the leading of the saints into service, all of which require the ministry of the word. We need to have the main contents in the word, that is, every year according the schedule, to have the definite contents, just as the school education with sequential courses. Week after week the solid truths are wrought into the saints, and by doing this we can attract people and uphold people. Therefore we need to put a strenuous effort to dig deeply into the word. The conclusion of this book tells us that the ministry of the word is vitally important to the increase of the church. Hence every one of us needs to labor in the word, shepherd saints that they may receive the education in truth and the supply of life to be enlivened to function organically.
The past five or six years have witnessed that the grace we received resulted from our participation in the standing orders for the publications of Taiwan Gospel Book Room (now there are 11 standing orders for the newly published ministry books in Chinese; the number of saints attending Chinese-speaking Lord’s Day meeting is about thirty) and our pursuing of the newly published ministry books book after book. Our practice is that we share what we have enjoyed in the newly published ministry books according to the arranged schedule half an hour ahead of the prayer meeting; every time we share about one to three chapters (about 15 pages), and every chapter is prepared by one to two saints before the meeting, then we exercise to share what we have read, and the rest of the saints can share freely. We exceptionally encourage the young saints to participate in this kind of pursuit. Therefore often within this half an hour all of us stand up one after another to share. Even when the time is up, we still want to linger on. Through such a corporate pursuit, the saints are incited to long for the Lord’s word and to enter into the riches of the word in the Lord’s recovery to be constituted with the truth.
