LOCAL CHURCHES IN CONNECTICUT RESPONSE TO THE TRAGEDY IN NEWTOWN, CT

THE LOCAL CHURCHES IN CONNECTICUT (Newington, Storrs, Waterbury & Woodbridge) IN RESPONSE TO THE TRAGEDY IN NEWTOWN, CT ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14

Dear saints,

Many of you have asked about the current situation in Connecticut.

Newtown, CT is located in the Southwestern part of the state. About halfway between Danbury and Bridgeport, 2 of the largest cities in CT. The closest locality is Waterbury, about 20 miles away. Newington and Woodbridge are about 40-45 miles away and Storrs is the farthest in the eastern part of the state. There is a cluster of saints living in Bridgeport, the largest city in CT.

At this time we only know of 2 families that have been indirectly affected. There is a family in Newington and a family in Woodbridge who both had coworkers whose children were slain. It is an almost unspeakable tragedy and the saints are still trying to comprehend how this could happen. All 4 localities met for prayer on Saturday December 15, the day after the shootings.

Newtown is a “classic” quiet, New England town with a population of about 27,500. That is about 2,500 less than Newington. Newington is the largest and oldest locality in CT with about 100 meeting on Lord’s Day. Woodbridge is the next largest with about 70 meeting on Lord’s Day. Waterbury and Storrs are smaller still.

In Newington we have at least 7 teachers or school nurses in the elementary levels. There is much prayer that they will be able to speak the Word of truth regarding the events in the upcoming weeks. Of course, many schools will be dismissing this week for the Winter holiday break.

Please stand with us as we prayerfully consider how to best meet the need of citizens of CT, how to release the high gospel to those in need, and how to strengthen all the believers in this time.

Yours in Christ,
